FRIDAY, 6TH MARCH

Bergenia is still flowering - living in hope of a bee or butterfly in the garden this weekend.

My neighbour's red Camelia is flowering (a grey squirrel has been eating the flowers!!)

whereas our white one is still in bud.

Garden Birds

Two more species added to the 2015 Garden Bird List - a Sparrowhawk and yesterday a pair of Goldcrests were foraging among the Jasmine leaves clambering over an arch on the patio. They were so close I could have got a good photo but had the wrong lens on the dslr and the bridge camera battery was flat :(

A pair of Blue Tits are constantly in and out of one of the nestboxes.

  1. Thank you for your kind comment. I also saw a Sparrowhawk ... it was flying through our garden yesterday, causing a commotion! I would love to see Goldcrests (I have in the past), particularly since I have just bought a Goldcrest poem, handwritten by poet David Morley in aid of the RSPB!

    1. Caroline Gill - Thanks so much for leaving a comment. Its great to watch the behaviour of Sparrowhawks when on the hunt although can be a trifle upsetting if they catch anything! Its the first garden Goldcrest sighting for a couple of years - hope yours return. The poem sounds exceedingly interesting :)

  2. We still have not had any birds in our nest boxes, might be due to the cat from next door ? It's not our dog as the birds will feed round him when he's in the garden. Planting up some spring bedding flowers this weekend and looking for some better early flowers for the Bees.

    1. Amanda Peters - Thanks so much Amanda. We have cats round here that visit the garden :( Hope you get some nest box visits soon. Enjoy the planting out! I am a bit upset that the mahonia here isn't in flower in yet - in fact, I can't even see any buds - as that is usually a good magnet for bees :)
